We met a friend from OCC and found the food very good, but just know that spicy means really as in set your socks on fire and run to the lake HOT. 3 ALARM

This place was great all 3 times we got food here. Then saturday 5/16/2015 my mom, who was visiting, got a special suprise in her spicy drunken noodles with steamed tofu: a metal wire. We will never purchase food here again. Places get sued for something like this, but my family isn't sue-happy.

I came here yesterday with my mother in law to have lunch. What's great here is that they have such a large menu selection and they also very clearly let you know their levels of spice. I am a spicy kind of girl and love that they actually use the level of heat normally used in Thai cuisine and not the American version of spicy. I ended up ordering the Curry Pad Thai with medium plus spicy and my mother in law ordered Lad Na very mild. During lunch time they also came out with a soup, today it was Thai style rice porridge which had tons of flavor. This came out before we even ordered our lunch which was a very nice touch to the lunch service. They curry pad thai definitely had the heat that I was looking for, but I couldn't really taste the red curry. However, this could be because I ordered it way too spicy and it blew out my taste buds. I also tried a bit of my mother's dish. She said that the chicken didn't have a lot of flavor to it, but the gravy that the noodles, vegetables, and meat sat in was flavorful. When I tasted it, it was a little heavy on the garlic, but overall was a tasty gravy indeed. The noodles of both dishes I felt it was a little underdone or starchy. I can't really describe the texture here. It could be that the brand of noodles they use isn't fresh and probably the one that is fried before the end consumer boils it in water. I use this types of rice noodles in my cooking sometimes and it's not my ideal noodle texture. Undercook it and it can have this al dente quality to it, which is not usually the texture you want for asian type noodles. On the other hand, if you over cook it, it then becomes too mushy. So overall solid.

I was surprised at how nice the dining room is. I assumed it'd be mostly takeout orders with an obligatory dining room for the two or three dine-in guests they get. But it was actually full in there and it's tastefully decorated and CLEAN. I got the pad Thai with tofu and it was pretty good. Our server gal said "medium" spiciness was too hot, but I tried it anyway and wasn't disappointed. It was not overly hot, but just right. It certainly gets the mouth warm. Which brings me to the very yummy Thai iced tea--which cuts the spice perfectly. They have a good tea/milk ratio. Mmmmm. We started with tofu tod. Delightful plum sauce with crushed peanuts. Their tofu preparation is awesome. Not greasy, not mushy. The perfect size & crispiness. Would definitely come back. Friendly staff, too. :)
(4)Lisa A.
Pretty awful! Very dry Pad Thai. All noodles few peanut, no bean sprouts or even a lemon wedge. I have been here before the quality continues to decline. Never again. Throwing it out.
(2)Julie B.
This place it's definitely above the curve when it comes to Thai food. But it doesn't compare to Sy Thai. I had the drunken noodle and spring rolls. It was the perfect spice but lacked a little flavor. And the annoying part of My visit was that someone who walked in after me got his food before me, and no hee did not call in his order hee Ordered about 5 min after I walked in. This won't be my first pick but definitely will do in a pinch when I don't want to drive all the way to Birmingham for Sy Thai.

This is one of the better thai places around town. Having been to thailand and thoroughly enjoying the cuisine, I find that this near hole-in-the-wall-esque place has the flavor profile down solid. The place itself is kind of sandwiched between a couple buildings, one of which looks like a cruddy motel, but you can't miss it with it's big red awning. They're extremely quick on their turnaround time, so that's really helpful. I've only ever gotten take-out from here, and I've had to wait all of 15 min for my food. I've had the panang, green curry, red curry, pad see ew, pad thai and the drunken noodles from here, and each of them tastes distinctly different, which is spot on. I usually get a medium+ spicy level because their thai spicy can sometimes be inedible if you're not used to it. They throw in a bunch of peppers, so beware. At some point, I may have to eat-in, but for now, this is an excellent quick, delicious carry out joint.

Super spicy but adequate food for the price.

We've had Siam Spicy on our radar since we moved to Royal Oak about 4 years ago. I've been fairly discouraged by the Chinese and Thai food in the area. It's generally very bland and unimpressive. Tonight, we decided to give it a shot. My test is always the Pad Thai. I think it's a fairly easy dish to do well with, but so many fall short on flavor. Their Pad Thai was just OK. It wasn't great. I was surprised it didn't have lime with it, which I definitely like to add. Fortunately, I have some fresh lime at home. I ordered Medium. Based on the few reviews I read before ordering, I was a little concerned it would be too spicy. It was not. I'm glad I didn't heed the warning of other Yelpers. I don't mind breaking a sweat while I eat. It's actually a good sign for me! My husband ordered the Kow Pad Prik with hopes of broccoli. It's Chinese broccoli, so it was just leafy greens. He still liked it. I wasn't all that impressed. The Spring Rolls were pretty decent. We both LOVED the Tom Yum with Chicken. Holy Moly! It was spicy hot! It popped with fresh lemongrass and cilantro. It was definitely one of the best Thai soups we've ever had. That right there earns another visit. We were breathing fire, sweating, eyes watering, nose running and eating all of it. I know what we'll be ordering when it gets cold out. We'll definitely try it again. Maybe some of their other menu items are better. I am intrigued, that's for sure!
(3)Caleb Y.
Very okay Thai. It is close and better than most around. Their service for take-out/pick-up is fast. The price is a little on the too expensive side for what you get. However the food tastes good and seems to be of fairly high quality.
(3)Kelsey K.
Order lunch for the office from here. Ordered a lunch special of pad kra prow... Little did I know that this curry like dish would not come with rice.... Too spicy to eat without rice. Menu should be more clear!
(1)John N.
Terrible customer service! We were turned away 35 minutes before the posted closing time. They said they "changed their hours". The open sign led us to believe otherwise. Okay, can we order carry out we ask? Yes. We proceed to order and are rudely shut down after every item we try to order. No soup! No panang curry. We only have number 31. On a menu of some 50 items, they can only offer on dish? This used to be the cream of the crop of Thai food yet now that there is a Thai restaurant on every corner one would think they might try a bit harder to maintain their reputation.
(2)Chef R.
Big fan of the Von Sen noodles! Another favorite is the Kra Tiem Prik Thai beef. Be warned, they are the spiciest Thai restaurant around. Their mild can be too much for most people. So if you don't like a lot of spice, say no spice, not mild.
(4)Jim A.
This is one of the first Thai restaurants in the Detroit area. I've been there back in the mid 80's. But I haven't been there in quite some time. Well today I drove by around lunch time and stopped to have my lunch. The soup was exceptionally good but the chicken in my meal had a bad aftertaste and there was hardly 5 thin slices in the entire meal. I am sorry but I am certain this is old chicken. Won't eat there anymore!
(2)Rachael J.
I use to rave about this place and it was always my go to place for Thai. But over the last couple of months, there's been too many things that have tarnished that record. Firstly the spice levels are never the same. A mild one week can be just right and the next it'll be burning your mouth. There's no consistency. Also lacking in flavor, but then again it's too spicy at times you just can't taste anything other than spice. Also there's been a lot of mix up with orders - parts of orders missing or just wrong. On the plus you do get great portion sizes and they tend to be pretty quick.
(3)Sandy V.
My family is obsessed with this restaurant. We eat here quite a bit. The food is very good and the pricing is reasonable. Beware though, if you order the food hot, it will be HOT! Great for those who like spicy food.
(4)Katie Y.
Siam Spicy has been my favorite Thai restaurant for 9 years now! It had been a while since I've come, but I can confirm that they still have the absolute best pad Thai anywhere! I usually get the pad Thai, but they have a very extensive menu and I've never thought anything was bad. The interiors have been renovated too. By the way, the hours are wrong - they open at 4:30 for dinner.
(5)John T.
Nice and very polite staff. However, Mediocre service. Food was mediocre as well. I am visiting the Detroit area from San Diego. We have many great Thai restaurants in SD....so I have something to compare to. The Siam Spicy was understaffed, so the wait for service was extended. My fathers meal was delivered immediately...as if it had been there waiting. The rest of us didn't get our food for another 20 minutes. The food was "glazed" in a thick sweet sauce...as if from some can. The worst Thai food I've had. Usually Thai food is great, but this seemed more like Chinese food. I ordered curry. I couldn't find any curry sauce in it. Post note: Throughout the night my father was sick, throwing up several times. I asked what happened. He said "I'm sick to my stomach". So maybe his food had been sitting awhile as we thought...since it was delivered immediately after he ordered it. I'm sorry to write this because they seem like really nice people...and maybe on other days the food is better....but not the night I went. This is solely my opinion, and i'm not sharing it to dissuade anyone from visiting. I'm simply reporting on my sole experience there.

WORST OFFENDER. This restaurant and it's sister locations is in serious need of a wake up call. Their food tastes simply terrible. NO authenticity. They have clearly stopped being concerned with quality. No flavor profile. And I mean none. I have been let down by this place for the last time and I hope they change before they end up turning people off to Thai food who would have otherwise enjoyed it. Here's an example of how they do 2 staple thai dishes. Pad Thai: you open the box, first thing wrong: no lemon. I can't stress how badly you'll miss this touch when you start tasting the terribly dry, over cooked noodles that are NOT dressed in any kind of sauce. Just stir fried in some ghee and minimal dry spice. There is ZERO trace of tamarind in their pad thai. You can't even convince me there was any fish sauce! This is basic, fundamental thai cooking protocol, people! Another no brainer, Gang Kew Warn (Green Curry). This is my best guess as to the contents of this dish: Coconut Milk, SALTY butter, curry powder (not paste), old chili flakes, mixed vegetables, and a serious lack of any type of contrast or diversity in flavor. Just dull, salty spice. No vibrance. This dish turned me on to thai food and if I had tried it here first, I would have swore off Thai food forever. Service is a moot point. This place is just like almost every Thai food restaurant in Michigan which is going to give you virtually the same lofty service and provide the same dated environment. So I don't discount it for that. The food is bad enough to discourage even the most polite diner. Just stay away. Please. For the sake of good Thai food.
(1)Dan B.
Driven by here countless times. Decided to stop. Fast, friendly service and really, really, good food. The "medium" heat was not too much. The price was fair and the portions generous. I WILL return soon.
(4)Corene F.
I ordered carry-out. I ordered the pad thai curry with pork. It was fine. Not great, not bad, but ok. I don't really have much more to say about it.
(3)Taylor K.
This place has great food! We usually get carry out but dining in is nice too! Very quaint dining room but very charming. My only complaints are1) the service in the dining can be slow at times. The food always comes out super quick but the waitresses are a little slow. 2) they close during the day between lunch and dinner. All in all an awesome dinner or lunch option.
(4)Lynette J.
I've had some bad restaurant food but this beats all. I'll stick to Cafe Thai in Southfield, hands down the best. I could have cooked a frozen meal that tasted better than that food. live and learn...
(1)Rob S.
My favorite thai place!!! Been coming here since 2003. My fav dish is the number 23 kra tiem prik tai and catfish larb. Tom yum is the best soup too!!
(5)K K.
I pretty much always get the Pad Thai, pork/tofu combo, medium plus, and am never disappointed. Addicting food. This might sound weird, but sometimes I get it to-go because the pad thai actually tastes better once it has "settled" a little bit. The flavors come out more when it sits. Love it.
(4)Miro M.
The most authentic and best Thai food I ever had.
(5)Kate E.
I loveeee Siam Spicy. Best thai food in the area hands down. My favorite is the pineapple fried rice. I do think their food is a little spicier than other thai places so take that into account when ordering!
(5)Amy H.
Gave Siam Spicy another try tonight. Ordered the Pad Pak Curry with tofu - extra hot. Holy hell, this is the hottest thai food I've ever eaten. I am extremely happy. This is my new "go to" thai food restaurant!
(4)Nicole L.
The next time I'm in search of Thai that's close and convenient I'll keep on driving. I ordered the Pad Thai Curry, which according to the menu should be stick noodles in a red curry sauce with coconut milk. What I received was a disgusting mix of tasteless slop in a thick, brown gravy sauce. We also ordered Giew Tod, which should be crispy wontons with pork. I should have called the restaurant and asked if they forgot to add the pork before frying the wonton portion.
(2)Julia C.
I ordered the chicken pad Thai with mild spice for lunch take out. It was the spiciest I have ever had. I couldn't finish eating it and my mouth and lips were burning. Even my boyfriend who loves spicy food said it was too hot considering it was supposed to be mild. Besides the spice it was tasteless and dry. The crab Rangoons were good but I don't really like the corn in it. I've had better Thai food in this area.

I just realized why driving by here tonight why this is my favorite Thai place. It is not because of all the top ratings they've had from Metro Times best of, or the fact it is the first place I took my wife to dinner when we dated, and she never had thai before and waas very scared. The food has always been consistently good. The owners (and I think they've had a few differnt owners over the 17 years I've been going there) are very personable there. Once they gave my daughter a beatiful handmade brass bracelet. This week someone at work asked me why I don;t like going out to lunch for thai at the palce by work on 10 mile and Telegraph in Southfield, or Bagkok 96. I couldn't put my finger on it but all I clould say was it didn't feel like a good value. But tonight i now know why: The all you can eat steamed rice that Siam Spicy gives with all meals! That's right. I've been to Thai Bistro in Canton, Bangkok City Thai in Southfield, etc, and everyplace I go to either doesn't give rice witht he meal, usually with noodle dishes, or they gove a scoop with each enterr on your plate. Well, Siam goves huge refillable bowls with EVERY meal. Rice at Thai is like bread at Italian, chips at mexican. They should be given at no charge with all food. Thai Bistro i think at 1 time charged me 2 or $3 for a cup of rice to go with my pad thai. What a ripoff! How is a cup of white rice, like $0.05??? It is a Thai Staple, why doesn;t it come with all meals? If I ate ate someones home in Thailand, wouldn't I be served it for breakfast, lunch and dinner??? Anyways, I love Siam Spicy, and I love the all you can eat white rice with every meal, no questions asked.
(5)Rachel O.
Good Thai food. Just a warning, but even their mild is spicier than most Thai mild plates.
(3)Kristin Y.
Pad Thai is amazing and pad se ew (not sure how to spell it lol) was good but I would rather have real pieces of broccoli not sure what was used but didn't like it. Definitely recommend the food but probably carry out next time just because it's soooo quiet w no music in there lol
(4)Christopher P.
This was my second trip here in the past year, first time was for lunch and most recently for dinner. Seems like the portions are equivalent, but with lunch, soup is included and it costs about $5-6. My wife and I ordered Pad Thai and Kow Pad, which we shared, and both were delicious. There was enough for us to take home for another meal, and I would order either one again. The soup was a coconut milk-based chicken soup with mushrooms, onion, cilantro, basil and a bit of spice. It was really good, and plenty to share. One thing I like here is they bring a pitcher of H2O to the table, and you will probably want all of it if you go medium spicy or more. I will be back, definitely for lunch sometime.
(4)Leeann R.
This place is by far my favorite Thai in Oakland County. Their spicy level is excellent, and doesn't compromise flavor. I get Pad Tua (Cashew Chicken) every time, and I will never regret it.
(5)Sangeeta L.
Love the Curry Peanut (vegetarian)! I always get takeout so can't rate the inside to give it a full 5 star.
(4)Diane P.
Best Thai place hands down. Nice little date spot if you want a quiet place.
(5)Sandra H.
No stars for this place. Not only do they mess up to go orders, food was bad quality and customer service was even worse! His is not the first time this has happened-now we will never go back!
(1)Mike S.
This was definitely a tasty little find. After a 20 minute discussion on where to eat and what type of Asian food we wanted, it was finally settled that we would be eating here. We started off with an order of crispy tofu to share, which was a little too crunchy but very tasty and the spring rolls were just alright. IMPORTANT - when ordering, do not underestimate the spice level. They offer the option of one of the following spice levels for any meal that you order: "Very Mild", "Mild", "Mild Plus", "Medium", "Medium Plus", "Spicy". After being talked out of ordering my Pad See Ew with medium spice for being too spicy, I settled on mild plus, content with the fact that my meal would not be as spicy as i would have preferred. DAMN was I wrong. That shit was spicy. Like I can feel my tongue dying spicy. Maybe I'm more of a wimp than expected but they pack a mean punch. It was a freaking delicious meal but just know that if you order anywhere between medium and spicy, you are in for one hell of a ride.

I'm a creature of habit when it comes to Thai food, so I've only tried a few dishes here. I could live off of Siam Spicy's Pad Von Sen (which I can't find at any other thai restaurant) with tofu. The drunken rice (with basil) is delicious, too; Pad Thai is just so-so. The most annoying thing about Siam Spicy is that they close between the lunch and dinner hours. I've known this for years, and occasionally will end up disappointed, on their door step, at 3pm, for a late lunch. Their dining room is small, and usually empty, and without background music. That said, if there are only two tables seated, you can easily find yourself distracted with the next tables conversation. Overall, this place has tasty, slightly overpriced Thai food.
(3)Alexi A.
Best Thai food around. Wow I tried other places but always find my way back here and then wonder why I strayed. It is super spicy. If you like it so hot you can't taste it then get the Medium spice. If you like it hot but still want to taste, the mild plus spice is perfect. Pad Thai for kids is great, order it without spice. My kids live the Tofu Pad Thai. My husband likes that unlike most Thai restaurants they include rice with each order if Pad Thai.

So...you know when you have that place that you loved, but haven't been there in a while, and then go back to again...and think, WTF happened? Well, let's talk about Siam Spicy. As another poster said, "sad, sad, sad." Or, to quote my friend Janelle..."I have a new best enemy!" Let's not start at the fact that the once delicious Gang Gai tasted like floor polish, nor should we begin with the piece of Brillo-pad that ended up garnishing our Chicken Pad Thai...no, let's talk about happier times. Those times when my friends, who once lived in Oak Park, and I would order the Siam to get our weekly fix and enjoy a delicious dinner of wonderful Thai bliss. That was not this day... So, on the way home from work, I called the wife and suggested we get Thai. I had been telling her, who is new to the area, that Siam was the best Thai I've had. This is unfortunate, as I realized I set the bar at a lofty level that the chef was unable to handle. I called in an order, added some delicious spring rolls, and headed to pick it up. Upon arriving home, it was obvious that the spring rolls were burnt. The ends were not browned to a delicious crunchy splendor, but crisped to a charcoal black and a bit to carbon flavored to truly enjoy. But the interior...the delicious vegetables and whatever other goodness they've stuffed into these jewels must be great, right? Wrong again. To describe it as bland wouldn't begin to touch the disappointment. I mean, this is Thai right? The flavor of peanut oil, the delicious saltiness of fish-oil that covers most things...nope...bland. At this point, I can already sense my wife's disappointment, but we move onward and upward. To billing, as I asked for some heat on the side, the medium was much hotter than a traditional medium. This was to me liking. I took a small but adequate portion of Pad Thai and some Gang Gai. I began with the Gang Gai... The Gang Gai may be one of my favorite foods ever. The arm coconut milk and delicious Thai spices mixed with chicken, bamboo shoots, mushrooms and peppers. Well...almost all of those things, except that there were two mushrooms, one that was so hard it was like bark and the others just non existent, and a lot of bamboo. But hey, I still have the delicious sweet and savory sauce to enjoy with my chicken and rice, right? Wrong again! The chicken was so over cooked that the sauce couldn't soften up the rubbery nuggets that I endlessly chewed to get down. And, there was so much basil and lemon grass in the recipe that you could hardly taste anything else. Thank goodness that after sprinkling mine with extra pepper, it became so hot I could taste less. In the end, I decided to forgo any more punishment, and move onto the Pad Thai. Covered with delicious peanuts the Pad Thai looked as delcious as I hoped it would be. The chicken, like that of the Gang Gai, was woefully over cooked. It was rubbery and had no flavor. I understand Thai spices are strong, but the chicken flavor does in fact add to the overall dish...when present, and it wasn't! Again, this was a bit hotter than expected, to my delight. Ordering for two, I went cautiously medium and prepared to spice mine up a bit more...it was ok as was, but a bit more spice wouldn't hurt. As I'm getting ready to take another bite, it happens. My wife pulls a sizable piece of metal shaving out of her Pad Thai. Meal over. There's nothing worse than expecting something great and getting something awful. That is, except when you build that expectation up in another. I promised wonderful sweet, hot and savory Thai food and showed up with metal mouth slivers....never again. To quote one of my favorite films (and plays), A Bronx Tale, "He's never gonna bother you again. He's never gonna ask you for money again. He's out of your life for 20 dollars. You got off cheap. Forget it." And so I shall...

So i have heard a lot of people talk about how much they enjoy the food here, I really have to disagree. Three of us went for dinner and this is my report. First off the heat scale here is way off. I ordered mild and my wife and son ordered medium. My food came out first. The first issue I have was the portion, the dinner is 10.99 and there was maybe 2 oz. of beef on a bed of warm lettuce. Second was this it was so spicy my lips burned. when the waitress arrived with my son's food I let her know it was too hot and she apologized took it away. When mine came back finally my Wife's Pad Thai arrived. She enjoys her Thai food spicy but this was almost too her for her as well. Neither she nor my son even ate half of their entrees. Hot is fine but when its the only taste to the dish, that's not good food. As I ate my rice I got hard uncooked pieces of rice in almost every bite. As we left the cashier asked how our food was and I replied that it was not very good to which she answered oh, sorry. my wife had stomach issues the whole next day after eating less than hafl of her meal. I will for sure stick to a couple other local Thai restaurants in the area that are much better quality.

My co-workers picked this place, and when I walked in, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. It's kind of got that cliche "Asian restaurant" vibe--old school tables, carpet, tiny dining area, and only one other person eating at the time we got there. They immediately brought out bowls of soup, which was not vegetarian. I'm not sure if they serve the same soup every day, but if you're veggie or vegan I would recommend double-checking. When they take your order, they ask what level of spice you'd like on your dish, and I have the world's most sensitive taste buds, so I asked for "as *not* spicy as possible." I was a bit concerned that this would translate to the cooks, but to my surprise, my fried rice was delicious and not too spicy, and when the bill came, there was handwritten note next to my order that said "very very little spice." That earned them the extra star. Also, when we left the restaurant was packed, so I guess my co-workers just know that we needed to get there early to beat the rush. That earned them an extra star too :-)
(4)Kim G.
Average local Thai restaurant atmosphere, but has some great food. I love the rice and it is not too expensive. It is a little more spicy than others, so if you are used to another place, you may want to try a partial level down for your first time. They seem to hate when I tip, which is strange.
(5)Michael C.
Siam Spicy is excellent Thai food. Soups are fantastic and the plates are loaded with food. The dishes seem to be a little hotter than other places, that's not a negative thing.
(5)Jon L.
Pros: I asked for it extra spicy and they can definitely bring the heat. Also only took 5 minutes to make. Cons: Not much chicken in my chicken curry w/vegetables. Taste was bland except for the spiciness. Conclusion: I'd get this in a pinch if I wanted Thai and was short on time. Not worth going out of your way for.

We ended up at Siam Spicy "Thai" and Oriental Restaurant out of desperation: after an eight hour ER visit for an awful asthma attack, I was pretty desperate for something to eat and Pad Thai is my to-go comfort food. Skimming the reviews, I had my hesitations, but the insane amounts of albuterol in my system outweighed my better judgment. I ordered Pad Thai and my companion ordered plain rice noodles, to which he added soy sauce and hot pepper sauce (don't ask; I certainly didn't). The Pad Thai was lousy: it tasted like corn syrup and was that unnatural color of Pad Thai that doesn't contain real tamarind paste/sauce. My companion said that his rice noodles were perfectly cooked and that he would be willing to return to Siam "Thai" in the future so he could have his noodle/soy sauce/hot pepper sauce concoction again. Um, yummy? For obvious reasons, I chose not to figure his opinion into my overall rating of Siam "Thai." As bad as the food was, I was still astounded when I went to the restroom and glanced through a window into the kitchen: there were a number of workers in the kitchen and (as far as I could tell), each was drinking beer while cooking. There were several large clear trash bags, maybe 45 gallon size, filled with beer cans that were a cheap brand not sold by the restaurant. I've never worked in a restaurant and I suppose I shouldn't be shocked that chefs might consume some alcohol while on duty (although I *was* shocked), but the sheer quantity of empty beer cans ensconced in trash bags abandoned and scattered around the kitchen floor suggests either a high enough consumption level of alcohol to explain why the food was so lousy - or a lack of dedication to cleanliness and cleaning up that might explain why the food was so lousy. Either way, definitely a one-and-done experience for me.

I have tried Thai food in every town I have traveled to and Siam is hands down the best. I live in Chicago now and still salivate when I think about their Pad See-Ew. It is life changing. Try it!!! This is Thai food how it is meamt to be, actually spicy!!!
(5)Chelsea H.
Best Tom Yum soup I've had in Michigan, for sure. They even let me put tofu in it instead of chicken, which made me very happy. Pad Thai was acceptable, better than most. I would recommend getting take-out because the atmosphere is pretty dumpy and depressing. I'll definitely be back to see if their Pad Kee Mao is up to snuff (fingers crossed).
(4)Nessa F.
Yuck! Soup was oily. Actually, everything was oily except the white rice. Got my order wrong. I tend to be nice re food - ok is good enough in most cases. I wanted to like this place and need a "go to" place near my house. It is dirty. Even compared to many similar places. I hardly post on yelp. But this place made me want to warn others.

Avoid this place! There are better Thai restaurants around, keep searching! This place used to be the best in Detroit.... it is now horrible. We used to eat here all the time when we went to CCS. We would drive all the way from Downtown Detroit for this Thai food. Today we ordered take out. It was terrible. The Chicken Satay was covered in chicken skin, one piece actually had a piece of bone still in it. We ordered Chicken Fried rice and Pad Pak, both at mild plus. They were unbearably hot. We both like hot food, we put Siracha on everything, from chilli to hot dogs, but this was 'Burn Your Mouth' hot... hardly mild plus. Luckily many newer, better, fresher, and cleaner Thai restaurants have moved into the Royal Oak/Birmingham area since I was in College, because we will never, ever go here again.

I moved to this area, right down the road actually, in October, and because of some of the reviews on here I didn't go to this restaurant, even though I LOVE Thai food... I am so glad I decided to give it a try anyways!! The food was AMAZING, and so were the leftovers :) It reheats well :) The service was great! I ordered "extremely mild" due to everyone's reviews, and it was about what medium is anywhere else, so definitely make sure you don't order hot... This is EASILY my new favorite place for Thai food, I will definitely be going back again and again. (Also, my son ordered chicken fried rice, no spice, and said it was the best he has ever had... I tried it and agreed.)

Dear Siam Spicy, If you have to tell your customers to order mild, maybe your food is too spicy. I realize your restaurant's name is Siam Spicy and not Siam Mild but I'm pretty sure I am not supposed to be sweating after eating pineapple fried rice. Thanks, Mary P.S. Thanks for the big pitcher of water!

We were desperate to find a good Thai restaurant after moving to the area from Atlanta last year. A friend that happened to grow up in the area introduced us to Siam Spicy...where his dad had been coming for years. We're so happy to have found this restaurant! We eat here at least every couple weeks, sometimes once a week. The Massaman curry is like the best, most rich bowl of comforting soup on a cold Michigan evening. The curry pad thai is amazing: the regular pad thai with a coconut curry sauce. Beware though...they add a lot of spice! I've been eating here regularly and still get mild; also, the longer your leftover sit, the spicier it is. Don't let the modest outside of the building fool you, the food is great! The inside is also modest and small, but it is family operated and everyone is very friendly!

Been there twice so far. Good to see a restaurant have two seatings, they actually close between dinner and lunch. The pad see iw is good.

$23 for two entrees and they had no white people sauce the night I called in for my order (aka no pad thai sauce... means no pad thai!). Not worth it. My precious pad see ewe had nearly no Chinese broccoli in it, it was mostly noodles and tofu filler. I pay $5 less for 2 entrees at Pi's Thai, granted, it's in cash... but at least I feel like its worth dealing with their strange hours and cash only policy. Siam Spicy, I am quitting you. On to greener pastures.

I love this place. I don't know if it's because this is the first Thai restaurant I've ever been to or if it's because of the dish that I adore but can't seem to find it anywhere else. Either way, I love this place and will go anytime someone wants to join me. It's definitely old school and I don't think the place has been updated since 1992 but hey, it's part of the charm. I always order the Pad Gai, tofu instead of chicken, and mild plus spice. I have yet to visit another Thai restaurant that even offers Pad Gai. For those of you that have been there, you know what I'm talking about when I say "mild plus". To those of you that fear spice, always stick with the mild or the no spice as this place is known for being a wee bit hotter than most Thai places. I think I read a review of someone's who was very unhappy about the spice. To that I suggest you grow a pair or just don't go to restaurants that make food that does have spice. It's like going to an Indian restaurant and then following up with "I don't like curry." Anywho...I usually go with my Dad who always gets the Pad See-Iew after I talked him out of getting the stupid Pad Thai. He was very happy to move into the Pad See-Iew and much to his surprise, they actually used Chinese broccoli which is a nice change to the usual florets we're all so accustomed to. I know there are some people out there with their noses up saying "that is not a tradition Thai style restaurant." Or something to that effect. I would definitely have to agree with you but does that mean it's bad? Not at all! Do you think most of the Chinese restaurants around metro-Detroit are truly authentic? Probably not but we still love them anyway. Siam Spicy is my guilty pleasure and I don't care!! I really wish I could give it less stars but they always deliver consistency and deliciousness.

Chicken in pad Thai wasn't the best quality

I've been driving by and never gave this place much thought.. then an overnight at the *glamorous* Palms Motel behind the restaurant due to home repairs and it was "what the heck" lets walk across the parking lot and give it a try. After this first visit, I WILL be back. Top notch food and delightful service in an impeccably clean restaurant. I am in love. You like spicy? I know I do and so I ordered "mild plus" after being talked down from the heat and also because my man is a bit more of a tender tongue than I am and I wanted to share my meal with him... don't let anyone fool you; they. serve. spicy. food. Whatever your spice level, order down a notch or two.. this place is not shy about adding the heat! Every aspect of the meal was great. I had squid with a pepper garlic sauce... nothing I've ever tried before and now I dream about. The Tom Yum soup was excellent. The portions generous. The service helpful but not intrusive. I can't wait to return and sample more excellence.

My fiance used to go here on an almost weekly basis a few years ago before moving further away and has always raved about it but I had never tried it until this past Friday. After a disappointing Thia food experience on Thursday we decided to try again on Friday and took the opportunity to try it. After reading some reviews I was very excited to try a place that isn't afraid to bring the heat. What ensued was the best and worst experiences of my life. We ordered for carry out and my fiance ordered the Pad Thai with Tofu, zero spice. The Tofu was plentiful and firm, the whole dish was very flavorful. This was great, since she has a really hard time finding Thia places who can make a dish no spice without also making it no flavor. We got a side order of spring rolls too. They were good, nothing to really write home but crunchy, not greasy and the filling was good. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, which was a smart decision... I also ordered it as hot as they could make it which was a horrible decision. I should have seen my fate coming when the guy on the phone said "very very very very spicy? That's our highest level." I felt immediately like I may have over reached here but I had already committed, and really how bad could it be? I'm going to say here that their take out service is FAST. The food was ready and waiting for us by the time we got there, less than 10 minutes which was amazing as we were starving. We grabbed our food and headed home. I opened my take out box and thought I was safe, It didn't seem that spicy, I didn't see too much red pepper flake, orange oil pooling in the bottom and the smell didn't singe my nose hair... but then I mixed up the noodles and chicken. I honestly could not believe how much chili flake was in the dish. It was obvious I was in for some pain but I soldiered on. It was in the running for one of the most painfully spicy meals of my life. I tried to tone it down by mixing in some rice and adding the side order of peanut sauce and it did nothing to tame the heat. What I was really impressed with was that despite a heat that made my nose run and my eyes water (it took me over an hour and 4 glasses of water to finish it) there was still great flavor there, not just heat. Siam Spicy has definitely earned my business, If they can cover the gamut from zero spice to OMG I might die tonight and not sacrifice the original flavor, that's a place I will continue to frequent. And they did it without making any of the food greasy. Also as a side note I survived the Chicken Vindaloo (made w/ 2 Ghost Chilis) at RO's Mati Mahal so really think about it before asking for Siam Spicy to bring the heat, they are not afraid to crank it up to 11.

It seems that most yelpers either love or hate this place and to an extent I agree with both during every meal I eat of theirs. The dining room lacks ambiance and so take out is the way to go. I think their food is delicious however they are feakin spicy. The medium is hot, hot, maybe not thai hot but definitely if you get anything but mild, you'll be wanting a glass of milk or coke with your dinner. That being said, if you don't order medium or above you'll enjoy your meal, its darn good thai food. Unfortunately, we always inevitably order something that they are out of. Generally I'm an indecisive person so when I do get around to making a decision I don't want to hear that they are out. How can you be out of larb, really, its larb. That really gets under my skin, update your menu already! Saim Spicy is a mom n pop kinda place that is actually run by Thai, so I think that in itself makes it worth supporting. I just wish they would offer delivery since I get takeout anyhow.

Sad, sad, sad. They used to be so good. The portion sizes are now horrifyingly skimpy. The prices are jacked. The attitude is grumpy. (They used to be so nice!) They can't seem to get the heat level right. Medium used to be PERFECT! You better watch it now...the medium was so blazing hot, in was inedible. We tossed the entire bag into the trash. Not happy. Reading other reviews, no eggplant??? For real?? That's crazy. Siam Spicy was a place you could count on for consistency. No more. Sad. I'm feeling generous today, so my 1.5 star is rounded up.

First thing: the website doesn't work. C'mon folkz. Siam Spicy (the original) on Woodward is the best Thai food in the Detroit area. The menu is extensive, almost everything is pictorially represented (which helps loads), and, as ever, the "spicy" part of the deal is no joke. To the uninitiated: do not mess around with the spiciness of your food at an unfamiliar Thai place. In sum: Pad Thai, medium: amazing. A little overdone with the peanut pieces on top, and weighing in at a hefty 2lbs. of food (I weighed the carry-out at home), this one dish could feed two human-sized humans. Pad Gai, superb, mild. Multiple curries - wonderful. My tough brother and father were quite literally sweating their shirts off with the HOT and MEDIUM, respectively. In sum: carryout is quick and cheap. Food tastes just right, and is as spicy as it comes, so start with the mild. The service is really the only thing holding it back, as they seem to be perpetually understaffed in the dining room if you're eating in. Despite this, there's a reason this has been a consistent "Best in Detroit."

Best Thai in Michigan. I was turned onto this place by my boyfriend who has grown up eating here. His parents starting taking him here as a small boy and now at 34 years old he still comes back. After one time there, I am hooked. I eat there about once a week and would never try anywhere else. I am a vegetarian and they will accommodate me every time. My favorite is the Pad Thai, vegetarian no fish sauce. Extra egg, extra tofu, mild. Spring Rolls too! Delicious every time and good to warm up leftovers for a couple of days after (we like to roll the leftovers into an omelet the next day).. Mild to me is HOT. So if you are sensitive, be careful.
(5)Haroun K.
I returned a few weeks ago for dinner. The food was very good, as usual, but the prices have been raised, which almost puts this place out of my poor-student's price range. Sad.
(4)Greg S.
Siam Spicy is kind of a Woodward institution. The dishes tend to be on the spicy side so I would bump your order down 1 notch to be on the safe side. Pretty standard place, I've only ordered carry-out.
(3)Kate H.
This would actually be a 2.5 rating. I'm only rounding up because tonight my green curry (sans the eggplant that it is supposed to have) was pretty tasty and full of flavor. This is pretty much the last Thai place I'd go to, but my husband seems to believe that it's still as good as it was in its hay-day, which would have been when exactly? I'm guessing the mid-90s based on the old Metro Times Awards on their wall. The food is fine, but nothing special, although tonight it did seem a lot fresher than usual. Their heat level is stellar, that's one thing they've got going for them. A medium at Siam Spicy is pretty much a hot at most other places, and if you typically get mild, I'd go with very mild to play it safe. The real dealbreaker is the outrageous prices. Outrageous. $23 for two entrees, and neither was a seafood dish. There weren't any extras (spring rolls or soup, maybe?) and it's not like it was an enormous amount of food either. I'm going to try to avoid going back there just out of principle, because they are clearly overcharging people, but it's nearly impossible for me to say no to Thai food (even over-priced inconsistent Thai food). So if that's where the hubby wants to get his Thai food, I can't say I won't be back.
(3)Anthony F.
This hole in the wall Rocks!!!!!!! The best Kow pad ( fried rice ) in metro Detroit.
(5)Jill S.
My friend and I have never had a bad experience here! We both get the exact same thing each time we go--an order of spring rolls each, drunken fried rice for her and chicken pad Von sen for me..delicious!
(4)Lola D.
I do realize many people rave about this place, but I can't understand why? The food is neither good, nor bad. It is a perfectly fine thai place, but there are so many of them. There is one thing, that although should not have a negative effect-it does: the place has no windows and is located directly next to a cheap motel. This is a purely emotional response from me and has no logical defense.
(3)Alize C.
Penn's Thai on 14 mile and Crooks is much better. Only ordered here because they are open later on Sundays. Red Curry was tasteless except for an obnoxious amount of spice. Never again!
(1)Anya G.
Siam Spicy Thai could be best described as a hole in the wall. I drove by it every day to and from work and never that I wanted to stop. Yesterday I ordered take out Ka Tiem, Tom Yum soup and my roommate ordered Mssaman curry, everything was medium spice. I love spicy food, but medium was a bit much for my taste, so when you specify your spice, be cautious. Portions are big, soup was eaten in two sitting, while I still have more than half of my dinner left. Staff is very friendly and the place looks clean. However, the set up of the restaurant is a little odd, looks looks like an office with a foyer with a desk and walkway to the dining room, which was a decent size room. The kitchen is located straight ahead from the door, where you can see the guy washing dishes and carryout containers. I would go back and will highly suggest to others.
(4)Stacie F.
This place is better than average for a Detroit area thai resturant, but I've had better. I'm a totally curry snob and theirs was decent. A little too soupy, but tasty. My 2 complaints are the spice - it was just a scoop of peppers where as authentic Thai food the spice is actually part of the cooking process. And the service was so slow. I think they had to go all the way to Thailand to get the veggies or something.
(3)Sarah G.
Siam Spicy broke my thai food cherry...so it will always hold a fond place in my heart. Not much to look at in here....pretty cramped seating...but boy...they sure do have the best spring rolls in town! I am currently traveling the US and testing thai food in every city and I must say nothing has come close to the spring rolls here. YUM!!!
(5)Jay G.
They have been out of eggplant for like two years.... Seriously, this does not even taste like Thai food. My Pad Thai was noodles, overcooked beef, and as much spice as they could manage to cover up the lack of knowledge on how to make the dish. Panang curry was oil and overcooked beef plus a lot of sauce. Not a single vegetable. Also, mild plus apparently means suicide on their spice scale. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
(1)John R.
By far, my favorite Thai restaurant. We made a visit to our old hometown and the best Chicken Vegetable Curry I have ever had.
(5)Kelly D.
Tom Yum soup was great. A lot of chicken and good spice. Restaurant is a hole in the wall but it was packed so it must be good food.
(4)RE A.
good simple thai food, nice atmosphere. no alcohol but they allow you to bring your own for a corkage fee. the pad pak is delicious and the servings are sharable size. parking is a nightmare and sometimes there is a wait to get in. we order take away and eat at home to avoid the wait. better ask them to use proper containers for your take aways or you'll find all the sauce in the bottom of the bag, and probably on you if you hold it. I tell them no styrofoam containers for my takeaways which will not hold the juices inside. if you're smart you'll take your own containers and let them fill them when you arrive. that's how you control the spillage and portion issues.
(3)o o.
I love this place.... ..they actually make the food somewhat spicy when you say spicy plus! i've eaten here for years and hope to eat here many more...
(4)Laila A.
My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new Thai place and stopped here, BAD IDEA. The food wasn't great, but what really got me was the filth of the place. The menu was practically glued together with grease and food smears. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
(1)Sarah L.
Great service. Quaint. $10-15 per person, but you get large portions. No brown rice just white. Very basic Thai menu, flavorful though.. Medium spice is pretty spicy for those that don't eat a lot of hot food.
(3)Theresa U.
Is it drafty in here!!? I dined in once and noticed it was cold in the front and hot in the back of the restaurant. I came again in the summer for take out and began to sweat! They cannot keep their temperature from fluctuating! That's okay, gives the place character. I think take out is the way to go. You will get to meet the cute little old lady that is hard to understand in the front. (just smile and nod) The food is good, and brought out fast. The pad thai is usually good. Oh, along with the Pad Se Ewe (can't spell). 3.5 stars -good, but not memorable fare -place needs to be better taken care of
(3)Akshay J.
The food here is Authentic...with richness in flavors true to Thai cuisine. The decor of the place is not that great but the food is really good. I tried the Tom Yum soup and the choo chee pla (fish). I would rank the food at this place above Rexy's on 13 and Woodward and Bangkok Cuisine in Birmingham.
(4)Chris C.
My wife and I love this place. By far my number one choice and others just don't match up. I still visit when I'm in town. Small place, no alcohol. If you like hot, watch what you ask for! :)

Siam Spicy was my first Thai experience about 10 years ago and had been cheerfully revisited with good frequency until last night. I was shocked by the poor quality of ingredients considering their prices have jumped by about 3 dollars an entree since my last visit. My dining companion got the Drunken Noodle and experienced 5 pieces of gristly chicken before throwing in the fork. My curry dish was fine but had less than the average amount of meat, the onions were papery Tough, and the green tinged potatoes had been sloppily prepared. Normally I am quite content to bite my tongue and smile when asked by the server how my meal is, but she never even came back to check on us. They were not terribly busy (2 other tables and a couple of carry out dinners) and we sat with our finished meals for about 15 minutes before finally seeing her, flagging her down, and asking for the bill. I hate hating on the place that first opened my eyes to such delicious cuisine, but you cannot simultaneously raise prices on your customers, serve them less than satisfying food, and forget to turn on the thermostat.

Pad Thai was delicious; Spring Rolls were amazing!

Have you ever tried finding a Thai restaurant that is open on a Sunday night? It won't happen unless it's Siam Spicy in Royal Oak. I attempted to go to Bangkok Cafe in Ferndale first, due to their extremely tasty food and affordable prices, but they were closed. Then I tried Bangkok City Thai Cuisine in Southfield also due to cost and value but they were also closed. I remembered seeing a Thai restaurant on Woodward and to my surprise they were open and taking orders. I ordered a large mild Pad See Ew (Flat noodles, broccoli and a sweet dark soy based sauce) and a large mild chicken fried rice i was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived in 10 expecting to wait 5 minutes. I then proceeded to wait an additional 20 minutes watching as multiple people came into the tiny waiting room/foyer received their orders and left. The waiting room is not only tiny but is unbelievably hot and uncomfortable. The kitchen is right next to the waiting room and you'd think it would smell somewhat pleasant, this is not the case. There was a lingering stale and pungent aroma permeating the waiting room. I finally paid for my meal, which ended up being around $22 (much much much more expensive than the other two restaurants i've noted previously) 20 minutes after I was told it would be ready. I was a little biased when I got home but was ready to forgive all as I opened the containers and the food looked and smelled delicious. The lady who packed the meal was also nice enough to label what was in each container. As my girlfriend and I took a few bites into our entree and the fried rice, we were greeted with a very very strong and spicy aftertaste. Now, I've had spicy thai food before but only after requesting it. Imagine our surprise to find that the chefs had undoubtedly cooked our meal with what tasted like a ghost chili. We didn't finish our meal and immediately went looking for some milk to calm our taste buds. Needless to say, I don't think we will be back to this establishment anytime soon.
(1)Allen P.
Honestly, not really the best thai food. Plus it's way too expensive for Thai food.
(3)Atom G.
Very good salads that are a little expensive. I prefer to pick up take out here but they do take care of you when you dine in. Not the hottest place in town but be careful that you do not get anything too spicy. I suggest the mild plus and any item off the menu is usually good
(4)Brian G.
Not a lot on ambience (a little grungy actually) but great food. Pad Thai outstanding, curry's very good, even the fried rice is well above average. This is not the big romantic date place, although the booths allow some privacy - but for inexpensive good food well worth the visit. The only less impressive part is the appetizers are not as good as the main courses - so skip them and go right for the main dishes. Far better than Bangkok Cafe or whatever that Detroit Hour Thai recco is - though perhaps a tad less "innovation" here (but much better food). Oh and whent hey say spicy they mean it - even the mild has a kick - so be aware!
